So, I'm sitting in my room this morning with little to nothing to do, when I get a phone call from a couple of friends. I answer and to my surprise, it was an invitation to lunch at a local Japanese restaurant.

This place is exactly how it sounds, small. Well, you may be thinking to yourself why would I want to go to a small restaurant? Small hole in the wall places generally serve better food, that's how they survive. Small Island proves this, serving Japanese cuisine at a very affordable price.

Not do they only just serve good Japanese food, but they are also involved in keeping the world a greener place to live. How often do you see restaurants using recyclable items? Not unless you live in Santa Monica, those restaurants do not count, as they are required by the city to recycle.

Enough talk, let's see some yummy food that was consumed this afternoon. First up, chicken katsu with teriyaki salmon plate. I ordered this dish for myself, as seeing how I just adore their katsu.

And if the katsu is not enough to satisfy your appetite, you can always order a combination plate like I did.

The dish was just delicious. The salad wasn't bad either. Just normal salad, but I loved the dressing that was used.

Here are a couple of more pictures to show what they offer and to convince you to eat there if not convinced yet. I can not and will not comment on these dishes, as I have not tried them. From what I can tell, from my friends that did eat them, they were very enjoyable.

Miso Soup

Sesame Chicken with what I believe to be Teriyaki Beef.

Now if you don't know what this is, then don't even bother eating at a Japanese place.

Again, the only draw backs were no waiter/waitress service, and we had to clean up after ourselves.

When you walk in there are tables that can seat up to four(4) people each. You place your order at the register, pay, and the food is delivered to your table. When you are done eating there are two(2) bins, one for trash and leftover scraps, and one for the plates. Parking is great and easily accessible.

If you love Japanese cuisine and haven't tried Small Island, I urge you to!!! You do not know what you are missing out on.

Corner Bakery Cafe ( Pasadena, CA )

So, after a long night of drinking in K-town, my friend and I decided to check out a local cafe for breakfast.

After spending over a hundred bucks on alcohol and with about ten bucks left in each of our pockets, it was a smart move to come here for a late breakfast.

At first glance this "bakery" may look like a health freak cafe, after eating here it is obvious that it is nothing but...

It is a cute little cafe with chairs and tables indoors and outdoors. The environment and atmosphere is very mellow and relaxing, a perfect way to spend a lazy morning after drinking.

Indoors is absolutely cozy, while outdoor carries a very picnic like feeling. With fresh air and great weather, who can resist not to take a seat outside?

The only draw back was that there was no waiter/waitress service, but the great thing is that we did not have to clean up after ourselves.

And did I mention there was free WiFi?

Parking is not bad, considering that this bakery is located in a shopping plaza. The parking for this bakery is very convenient, as you can eat, shop, and do your groceries all in one shot.

Now on to food...

I decided to have the french toast plate and a coffee. What's better than french toast for breakfast? Especially with a hangover to compliment it?

Does not look like much food? Well, considering this was a sub-ten dollar meal, it was more than enough to satisfy my hunger and the presentation was impressive.

The toast was very rich and decadent, maybe a little too much. It was borderline dessert to me, but overall very good. The fresh fruit complimented the richness of the toast very well.

Half way through my meal I found myself at a halt. Now, I can put away a lot of food.

This dish may look small at first, but it is very deceiving.

It was money well spent, the quality of the food and service is great. Now on to the aftermath of our Saturday morning late breakfast adventure in Pasadena, CA.

Overall, I would rate this plate as one of the best french toast plates, if not the best. Go give it a try and let me know what you think.
